Main Ingrediants
Origanum vulgare L. (oregano) is an aromatic perennial herb found in the Mediterranean region. Coccimiglio et al. reported that the ethanolic extract showed MIC values ranging from 6.3 to 12.5 µg/mL against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Burkholderia cenocepacia, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Bacillus subtilis (Coccimiglio et al., 2016). The essential oils show the highest antibacterial activity, with MIC’s ranging from 0.3 to 100 µg/mL.
Spearmint (Mentha spicata) essential oil, a common ingredient in flavorings, perfumes, and medicine, shows promise as a new weapon against cavity-causing bacteria. Studies have documented its effectiveness against various bacteria and fungi. These findings suggest that spearmint oil could be a valuable addition to the fight against cavities, potentially leading to the development of novel anti-caries treatments.
Rosemary extract, a natural substance known for its antioxidant and germ-fighting properties, was investigated in a laboratory setting to see how it affects Streptococcus sobrinus bacteria. This type of bacteria is linked to tooth decay. The researchers tested different concentrations of rosemary extract to see how well it inhibited the growth of this bacteria. They found that rosemary extract, particularly the one extracted with methanol, was effective at stopping the bacteria from growing.
